Just Listed: Jane Fonda’s Modernist Beverly Hills Mansion

“I took one look at the house and I knew…I just knew,” says actress Jane Fonda in a video as she recounts the first time she toured her modernist home on three quarters of an acre in the Trousdale section of Beverly Hills. She names the home’s style, light, architecture, strong modernist lines and lush landscaping as the factors that ultimately led her to purchase the home with music producer Richard Perry in 2012. She continues: “I just thought, ‘This place has taste.'”

The intuition Fonda describes may help guide the home’s next owner. The residence was placed on the market yesterday for $12,995,000 with Jade Mills and Valerie Fitzgerald of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage in Beverly Hills, and marketed by the Coldwell Banker Previews International® program.

Originally built in 1961 and remodeled extensively by the previous owner, the 7,000 square-foot residence offers a “nest” perched high above the city, as Fonda says, embraced in complete privacy with Melaleuca trees and sweeping views.

The entry offers a dramatic welcome with a Neoporte front door and a distinctive glass elevator connecting the first and second floors, which serves as an artistic focal point for the house. It also serves as a gallery for art.

A sense of warmth and comfort permeates the entire residence. A step-down post and beam living room with vaulted ceilings and a stacked stone fireplace is a statement in sophistication.

The home has five bedrooms, six bathrooms, a gym, a media room and a home office, which Fonda calls her “cave.” The remodeled kitchen opens to an expansive wall of windows, looking out over the valley below.

Eco-friendly elements, such as photo voltaic panels, a solar heat pool, ventless fireplaces, glazed UV windows with motorized room darkening shades and bamboo floors, have been thoughtfully integrated to further connect the home to nature. The master suite is a haven with a sitting room, his and hers bathrooms and a massive walk-in-closet.

“This is the first time in my 79-years that I have had a closet that you could walk in and see everything that you have,” says Fonda.

Despite its privacy, the house is an entertainer’s paradise — in fact, Fonda has hosted parties of over 150 people. A seamless flow from indoors to outdoors leads to a meditation garden and fountain, as well as breathtaking canyon and ocean views. You cannot help but feel an overwhelming sense of calm in this home, as if you are vacationing in a private resort away from it all.

“Whoever ends up with it,” concludes Fonda in the video. “I hope you love it as much as we have.”
